Lochless is a hosted text index built for LLMs and agents, intended to replace the retrieval stack (chunking, embeddings, vector database, reranker) with three API endpoints: POST /v1/ingest to send raw text documents (up to 1M characters each) with id, timestamp and metadata; POST /v1/context to return every document judged relevant to a natural-language query, as quotes with document ids and metadata; and POST /v1/ask to return a short written answer with inline citations. Queries support time and metadata filters, a free dry run showing price before execution, and a per-query read limit (default $1). Also offers an MCP server (https://api.lochless.io/mcp) with search, browse, read and ask tools, a free demo MCP server, and a BYOC option running in the customer's own AWS or GCP account. Early access; prepaid billing with $5 free credit.
